With the Labor Day Holiday weekend upon us, but an absolutely gorgeous day outside, the construction crew decided to work on Saturday and take Monday off. The brick work was started and Joe managed to get his truck in a ditch…..
The masonry team gets right to work on the bricks outside. Joe brought us 5 different brick samples based on some buildings we pointed out that we liked in the area. Rebecca, myself and the entire BCM team all voted on the colors. This is the one that all of us liked so we went with it. This is a nice blend of four or five colors so it’s not just one solid color all the way around the building.
There’s a better view of the colors. You can see all the brick ties screwed into the wall. As the brick gets up to those ties, they simply straighten them out and they get embedded into the brick, essentially securing the brick to the main wall of the building. Very clever.
Raising the 20′ walls that separate the facility from our unfinished open space.
This space will be available as an insert stage, an indoor basketball court and any manner of things that require an oversized open space. We have the space so why not keep it available for small video projects? The kitchen / game room and the conference room is off to the left side of this picture. We added that extra door there in the middle to make it easier to get to / from the kitchen.
Joe and I made a lumber run and when we came back he managed to bottom out the truck and get it stuck on the site. Well, not his fault actually. One of the workers had their truck right in the middle of the driveway leading in so Joe tried to go around him. With the long hood of his truck, he didn’t realize he was about to drop off the edge of the un-graded area and ended up bottoming out the truck. No problem, with so many four wheel drive trucks on the job site, he was pulled back out in no time. But it was pretty funny. Well to me anyway, probably not so much to Joe.
At the end of the day we stopped back. The walls are squared up in the unfinished space / insert stage.
Along the back wall there you can see the first wall of the conference room framed in. They will definitely have all the initial framing done next week!
They got the brick up to about 4′ along the left side of the building already. Really coming out nicely with the mix of colors.
And here we stand on September 4, 2010. You can see the installed brick on the left side of the building around the window. I’m thinking this will look drastically different next Saturday!
