So I got an email from Apple yesterday telling me that my iPhone 4 would arrive June 23, one day earlier than expected. Checking my FedEx tracking it still said June 24 so I really didn’t believe it.
But lo and behold, the FedEx truck left a nice package with my wife today that I opened up to find the phone! First off, I’m really digging the new shape because it’s fits nicer into the hand when holding it. Never would have thought the simple change from the rounded edges to the squared off edges would make such a difference but it does.
Now syncing didn’t quite work right. I attached my 3G model and did one last sync before I activated the 4 model. After the 4 activated and did the whole Sync thing, I quickly looked at the phone and saw that all my email accounts were there and I was showing something like 400 email messages unread. Good, everything’s there.
Not quite. When I tried to access mail while out I got a “username or password is incorrect….” error message. Three of my email accounts did not sync correctly even though I told it to allow the keychains for everything. Oh well, I was able to fix all that as soon as I got home from shopping and now all the mail is happy.
The first thing that I LOVE about this thing? The forward facing camera. No more holding the camera out, backwards and trying to hit that “camera” button to take the picture and then looking to see what you got.
See that little camera twirl in the upper right? Just click that and it switches between the front and rear camera. So now taking shots with your favorite puppy is as easy as trying to get her to sit….
And as you can see, the little slider at the bottom of the first image switches between photos and video. So if you want to shoot a little video, just slide it and shoot away. And I have to say the camera quality is quite good. Better than the original and the speed of the camera is much faster than the 3G model. Pictures snap off pretty much instantly. Here’s a larger version of an image from the camera, a cool little African mask courtesy of one of my producers.
So the phone is here, it’s fun and I’ll definitely have to download the iMovie App and see what kind of fun we can have with this and the video making capabilities. Still am amazed at how just the little change in shape makes it so much nicer to hold in the hand.
