Today was a very big step forward in the construction of our new facility. For the first time, we’re building up, rather than tearing down! It all started before dawn with a big concrete pump truck and ended with the delivery of our building!
5:30AM Metal Building Associates have already poured almost half of the slab. They get an early start not only to beat the heat of the day, but also to minimize the amount of traffic the concrete trucks have to drive through. That’s Steve Thigpen in the red shirt talking to my contractor Joe McCabe. Joe’s following up on the sauna location…
The pump truck is just so cool and this concrete crew was so great to watch. No communication, everybody just knew what they had to do. Reminded me so much of a great production crew.
Dawn breaks over the horizon as they near the end of the pour. Yes red in the morning means sailors take warning, but in our case, that’s a good sign. Rain all weekend is actually a good thing to help keep the slab cooler so we’re doing the rain dance!
Steve Thigpen and Joe McCabe discuss the awesomeness that is Biscardi Creative Media. Look Ann! No Socks!
Standing on the left side of the building as they are just about done on other side. I’m standing in part of the parking lot and the entrance to the site is on my right.
The pump truck got out of the way just in time for the building to arrive. Kind of like a big erector set, the entire building fit on one semi truck trailer that came from Cuba, Alabama. Had no idea there is a Cuba, Alabama. Driver told me it’s about a “step away from Mississippi.” And now you know.
The truck didn’t even stop rolling before the MBA crew got to work offloading the truck. I think they’ve built a few of these before….. MBA has actually built thousands of these buildings and they are very VERY good at what they do. I’m thankful they’re a part of our team to bring this building to fruition.
Smoothing out the concrete. I have a real appreciation for people who are skilled with their hands. It takes talent to do what he’s doing and make the entire project look good. I’m very thankful to all the skilled craftsmen who are a part of this project.
Very cool device with essentially fan blades that skim along the concrete bringing the “cream” to the top. After this sets for a little while, they come back and do the final smoothing of the top of the slab.
“Skiing” on concrete. He’s wearing aluminum “skis” so he can walk along the concrete without digging in. Had no idea anything like this even existed. The things you learn when you get involved with new construction….
Next up, turn this pile of steel into a shell. According to the supervisor, it will take about 6 days to put the building up. How cool is that?
