About a month ago I got an email from one of my Creative Cow buddies, Todd Terry of Fantastic Plastic in Alabama. Passed along some information about some acoustic panels for audio diffusion in a VO Booth, edit suite or sound suite. The neat thing is that they are made from recycled cardboard. So I ordered a few and had my audio designer check them out. His verdict. “These things are cool!” And pretty darn cheap compared to similar foam type of treatments.
They are the Mio Acoustic Weave panels. They come in a box of 12 pieces, each piece 12″ square that looks like this:
So they interlock to form a continuous pattern. And thanks to those little tabs on the right and left of each panel, they can even be placed into a corner on a 45 degree angle. Here’s what they look like so far in our VO Booth.
I’ll be adding more to the other walls tomorrow, but wanted to share this neat little find from Todd. They can also be painted and that’s most likely what we’ll do in here. Paint them the same color as the walls so they just blend in. But maybe not. They actually look pretty darn nice in the natural color.
Thanks for the tip Todd!
These look great, never seen them before!
Diffusion is always a good choice for recording rooms.
Is there a fire rating – just wondering if you could put them in college studios?
Thanks
Will
You’ll have to write to the folks at Mio.com and ask them what the fire rating is. They are recycled cardboard.
