It’s September 14th, and the bricks are about done, the Conference Room makes its first appearance and the “inner room” of the sound suite is starting to take shape.
Standing in the kitchen looking at our roughly framed Conference Room. We designed it pretty darn big at about 12 feet wide and 20 feet long. Lots of room for staff and clients. My plan is to cover three walls with cork board for ease in walking through storyboards, planning out episodes and the like. A pretty conference room is nice, but I really want this room to be multi purpose functional. I put it right off the kitchen so you can grab something on the way in.
So before I show the latest framing, here’s a look at the drawing for the Screening Room. It’ll be a combination of 5.1 Surround Sound Mixing and Color Enhancement in one large suite. Since I’ve never designed a sound room before, I brought in Audio Engineer Patrick Belden and showed us the “room within a room” concept to isolate the this room from the rest of the facility. So you can see there’s a square box around the perimeter of the room and then there is another, more angular room inside of that. This is to ensure that audio waves are directed in such as way as to eliminate echo and backslap.
So here you are looking at the back of the Screening Room. The perimeter, square wall, is already standing. On the floor you can see where the inner back wall will be built leaving a sizeable air gap between the two walls. It’s a little different than what you see on the drawing but follows the same principal with the angled walls. Patrick tweaked the design a bit on site.
It might be a little difficult to see, but here you are looking at the front of the Screening Room and you’re looking at the inner front wall. There’s an outer wall right behind it. On the floor on the right side of the image you can see the angle that the inner wall will follow. The two walls coming up either side of this room will also be slightly angled as well. The ceiling will also slope from about 10 feet in the back to about 9 feet in the front. Basically you don’t want any right angles or perfectly parallel walls when the room is done. Since we’re building from scratch, this is pretty easy right now.
The bricks are just about done. A little patch there and then above the garage door. I’m thinking one more day and they’ll be out of there.
A look from the entrance of the lot. Getting closer to realizing our dream!
