The Grading company surprised me. They went in over the weekend and installed the storm pipes and manholes. I guess they saw that the weather is going to be a bit wet today and tomorrow so they went in to get it done before the rains came. If I had known I definitely would have been over there to shoot some video and definitely beg for the opportunity to drive the darn bulldozer!
My contractor, Joe McCabe and I went over to check out the site and see where we are today.
Looking back from my “timelapse” camera position. You can see that many of the trees that were right up against the back of the silt fence are now gone and we have a nice view of the wooded area behind the site.
Looking left from the “timelapse” camera position, that’s Joe in the stylish white shorts. Really Joe? White shorts? For a contractor? I’m thinking those shorts are going to be mighty dirty before the day is through….
That manhole is about 3 or 4 feet down from ground level. Right in the middle of the driveway as you drive in. Gonna leave a mark on any car that doesn’t get swallowed up by it. Just kidding. It’s sitting that low because of the way the water drains down from the street. They will put a extension collar on that after the grading is done to bring up the height of the actual manhole so it’s not nearly that low in the ground….
Another manhole on the far left side of what will be our parking lot. There are three in all out there to catch and direct the storm water to the detention pond that serves the property. Yep, I said detention pond, not retention pond. I always thought it was a retention pond, but apparently not.
Looking back towards the street with Joe’s head leaning into the shot.
It is truly amazing all the little details that go into constructing a building from scratch. You figure you clear some dirt and start building. Nope, gotta have storm drains to direct the water properly from your lot to a proper storm drain system. And you can’t build up until you dig down and put those things in. I’m definitely learning a lot about the building process!!!
Next up, some more grading on the lot to make it contour correctly and then Joe and the guys at Metal Building Associates can start framing up for the foundation slab! Should be pouring next week!
