Well, when the series came in, it turned out to be an absolute mess. We ended up moving it into Premiere Pro for the organization and then we just dropped the series altogether because what was promised and what was delivered were two completely different things. I’m still using Premiere Pro for the bulk of my editorial at this time, but still use Resolve from time to time for smaller projects.

Just read your 3 days using Resolve 12.5. How’s DR 12.5 working for the TV Pilot you mentioned in Day 3?

I didn’t test that. I think the title duration is controlled by the Still Duration preset in the Project Settings. I think they’re 5 seconds long.

Honestly in my 20+ years of editing with an NLE, I’ve never preset the length of the title. I always drag them in then set the length. I can look at that tomorrow or you might want to just go ahead and download the app yourself. It’s free so that’s the best part of all of this. Doesn’t cost you anything to download, install and test your workflow to see if it’s a fit.

If I need a title of exactly 3 seconds can I preset the duration so I’m not dragging in a long title in the timeline then editing the duration?

Yes there is integration with Fusion, but I’m working on one application at a time. I have over 20 years experience in After Effects so for now I’m working on getting up to speed on Resolve. Once I’m comfortable with that, I’ll start working with Fusion.

12.5 addresses many editing issues and “wants.” That’s why I waited until now to really start testing it. 12.0 wasn’t really much of an editor for me. It was functional, but that’s about it. 12.5 is full blown NLE especially when you use it the way it’s intended. The entire app, not just the Edit panel. More about that in the Day Three blog forthcoming.

If you want to share a project with your colorist in the bay next door, or with an editor across the country, you will all need to have the Studio version installed. You can’t use Resolve sharing capabilities if one of your collaborators doesn’t have the paying version.
Also, I believe that Resolve now has the same integration with Fusion as Premier has with After Effects. You can definitively send a shot from Resolve to Fusion for compositing effects and have resulting shot appear in your Resolve timeline once you switch back to it. So in theory you should be able to create your complex titles in Fusion, import them in Resolve and then being able to modify them via some sort of hyperlink. I’m not sure about that one, but it’s worth looking into.
I personally tried to edit something in Resolve12 and I couldn’t get used to the single monitor. Even when I turn the dual monitor on it just didn’t work for me. I like to have a big timeline and being able to see all my tracks, especially when using an Avid-like trim tool fonction (regardless of the NLE), and not being able to scale up the timeline the way I wanted was a major problem for me. The tracks scaling options were not good enough either. Other than that, it was a pretty good NLE. I hope 12.5 addresses my problem, otherwise I’ll have to stick with Avid and Premier.
Thanks for sharing your experience so far.

So it’s easier for me in this case to be able to NOT have it scale automatically.
