Adobe moves to support ProRes natively on Windows

Recently security reports came out noting that Quicktime Player on Windows machine is a major security issue. This creates a quandry for those editing professional video using the Apple ProRes codec since installing Quicktime is required to use this codec. Apparently Adobe is now working to natively support ProRes in the application without the need for Quicktime to be installed. Cool move.

Adobe Announcement on end of Windows Quicktime Support

With the recent announcement by the US Computer Readiness Team to uninstall Apple Quicktime on Windows machines, I wondered how this would affect Adobe Premiere Pro on Windows and cutting with Apple ProRes files.

Adobe just responded on their blog and it appears that editing ProRes could be a problem right now if you uninstalled Quicktime on a Windows Machine. Click the link for the full announcement.

Join Me at Adobe Video World in November!

So excited to announce that I’m scheduled to present at the all new “Adobe Video World” world event coming up in November in San Jose, California. FMC has combined Adobe Premiere Pro World and After Effects World into a weeklong event. You can choose to just attend Premiere Pro conferences or After Effects conferences, or both. The two events overlap on Nov 19/20 allowing editors and MoGfx artists to intermingle.

Right now I’m scheduled to present during the Premiere Pro portion of the event Tuesday, Nov. 17 and Wednesday, Nov. 18th. These are my expected presentations:

Case Study: Media Management and Organizing a Network Television Series

Real World example of Ice Cream Nation and Fork U for the new Contemporary Living Network on media managing and organizing the three main cameras, GoPros and audio sources to ensure all the media has unique file names and is easily accessible to the editors for the series. Also a workflow on archiving the footage after.

A Whole New Way to Color Correct: Using the Lumetri Effect in Premiere Pro.

Possibly the most powerful feature in the current version of Premiere Pro, this introduction to the color tool and how to use it effectively in your workflow create stunning color grades and looks without the need for any third party filters or software.

Creating Custom Looks for Your Footage with the Power of Transfer Modes

Often just used to overlay light leaks or film grain, transfer modes can completely change the way you use transitions and create entire color grades and looks utilizing nothing more than just some production elements and the transfer modes in Adobe Premiere Pro. I find way too many people have no clue how much can be accomplished in the transfer modes.

I’m excited to head to San Jose for my first time and hang out with some fellow creatives for a few days. Then I spin right back around to the Atlanta Cutters Creative Ball that following Saturday night!

Transfer FCPX Projects to Adobe Creative Cloud Apps!

Whoa! The folks at Intelligent Assistance have upgraded their X to 7 app (now renamed X to CC) to allow you to transfer FCPX projects to Adobe Creative Cloud apps (like Premiere Pro and After Effects). More cross platform ease of workflow. Bravo!

Watch BEFORE You Install Adobe Creative Cloud 2015

Apparently the new Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 will erase older Adobe software by default, which is different than previous Creative Cloud installers. Adobe has always allowed users to continue to use older versions of the software alongside newer versions.

Angie Taylor took the time to post this short video on how to properly install CC 2015 without accidentally erasing anything you don’t want to lose.
